Steve Toth’s False Attack on Crenshaw Dishonors Afghan Allies and U.S. Service Members

[TX-02] — Saying that “Dan Crenshaw’s immigration plan called for more Muslim immigration” represents a new level of disingenuousness and dishonesty—even for Steve Toth.

In his first television ad of the election cycle, Toth has deliberately misrepresented Congressman Crenshaw’s record. The legislation he attacks had nothing to do with expanding immigration. It focused solely on protecting people who directly assisted U.S. forces and now face grave threats because of that service.

During the Biden administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, many of the Afghans abandoned by that failure spent years risking their lives to protect Americans. Congressman Crenshaw knows this reality personally. He lost his eye to an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan—an attack that also killed his local interpreter, who stepped on the bomb first. Dan survived. His interpreter did not.

After the Taliban seized control, our allies who survived were forced into hiding, hunted by terrorists, or murdered for their cooperation with the United States. Abandoning them was a moral failure—and pretending their protection is reckless immigration policy only compounds that disgrace.

The Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program exists precisely to address this obligation. It requires extensive background checks, biometric screening, and documented proof of direct service to U.S. forces before any applicant can be admitted to the United States. The legislation Congressman Crenshaw supported upheld those standards, ensuring that those who helped Americans were both protected and properly vetted before resettlement.

To smear these allies as a political attack is deeply disrespectful—not only to the interpreters who fought and died alongside American forces, but also to every U.S. service member who depended on them in combat. Don’t believe it, ask someone who served and see what they say.

Turning their sacrifice into a false talking point dishonors the very people who stood with America against terrorism.

Texans deserve better than reckless falsehoods. They deserve leaders like Dan Crenshaw who tell the truth, honor our allies, and keep America’s promises.
