Steve Toth Opposes Border Security Funding while Congressman Crenshaw Leads on the Issue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DATE: February 2, 2026

[TX-2] — Despite his repeated claims of supporting border security, State Representative Steve Toth voted against billions of dollars in critical border-security funding. That legislation funded the Texas Military Department, the Department of Public Safety, and multiple agencies charged with securing the border and carrying out Operation Lone Star.

Voting against the very resources that make border security possible exposes a glaring issue that voters cannot ignore. Had the funding bill failed, Toth’s vote would have weakened support for DPS troopers, Texas military personnel, local sheriffs, and the thousands of men and women on the front lines tasked with protecting Texas communities.

Toth’s dismal border record stands in stark contrast to Congressman Crenshaw’s stalwart leadership on the issue. Crenshaw has traveled to and across the border more than a dozen times, meeting directly with law enforcement, military leaders, and subject-matter experts to assess conditions firsthand and advance real, workable solutions. His sustained leadership on border security has earned him the complete and total endorsement of the National Border Patrol Council, and he has taken a leading role in combatting the cartels.

Congressman Crenshaw also helped lead the effort to secure federal reimbursement for the billions Texas was forced to spend on border security during the Biden Administration’s failure to close the border.

Texans deserve leaders like Congressman Dan Crenshaw who deliver results, not politicians like Steve Toth who stage border photo ops while voting against the funding needed to secure the border.
