Everyone – including cops – wants to thoughtfully address police brutality. “Bad apples” can’t be tolerated in an institution as important as law enforcement. But defunding the police is a dangerous policy that will harm the communities who are hurting the most right now.
This is dangerous, counterproductive, and deeply irrational. “Defund the police” is not a call from the fringes of the far left anymore. It has gone from a radical slogan to actual policy in a major American city, within days. We should be focusing on commonsense reforms to address police brutality, not advocating for the dismantling of a force of men and women dedicated to keeping our communities safe.
